CUPE Support from University of Toronto

Dear colleagues,

My name is Mauricio Suchowlansky. I am a doctoral candidate in the Department of Political Science at the University of Toronto. As you know, members of CUPE 3902 Unit 1 here in Toronto have been on strike for roughly a week now. During this week, I have had the pleasure to picket and collaborate with many of my colleagues from other departments (and Universities), whose experiences and actions are much like yours: brilliant researchers and teachers who happened to be underpaid as a result of decades of underfunding Canada’s system of higher education. In a word, I want to convey the following: YOU ARE NOT ALONE. We stand by your side and we will do so until the Administration of UNBC decides to listen to its most important asset: YOU!

In solidarity,

Mauricio Suchowlansky

On behalf of URFA, I would like to add my voice to the tremendous support shown by all our sister associations in Canada. URFA will also be sending $1000 to our colleagues at UNBC-FA as a token of support for their job action. We won’t be able to send someone to join the picket lines, but our thoughts are with you. Your fight is also our fight.

Wilfred Laurier University

Hi Jacqueline —

The Wilfrid Laurier University Faculty Association sends you its support for the job action you have been forced into by an intransigent administration.  We are at present organizing for one or both of our CAUT DF representatives to attend your picket line next week with a $2000 cheque to show our further support.  The step taken by you and your colleagues is a brave and necessary action, one that is greatly admired by university professors and others across Canada.

Dear All:
The University of Guelph Faculty Association would like to give its full support to our brothers and sisters taking job action at UNBC.  Having just unionized in 2006 ourselves, we are all too aware of the difficulties associated with negotiating a first agreement.  Let this not dissuade you from your mission; A fair and equitable Agreement.  These are bound to be difficult times but please know that UGFA and all its members support you and will walk the line with you when we can.
