Alexandre recently joined the Department of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences in a tenure-track position specializing in Environmental Remote Sensing & Geospatial Technologies. Before this appointment, he worked as a Research Hydrologist with the British Columbia Ministry of Forests, and he is currently finalizing his PhD in Natural Resources and Environmental Studies here at UNBC.
Alexandre has extensive expertise in environmental remote sensing and geospatial technologies. As the founder of the BC Government Remote Sensing community of practice, he has led numerous interdisciplinary projects that bridge fieldwork, data analysis, and decision support systems. His notable contributions include developing the open-source 'watershedBC' project, which provides real-time geospatial computation of complex watershed statistics, and pioneering the 'RemoteLogger' initiative, which extends traditional remote sensing through low-cost satellite-enabled data loggers.
His research focuses on innovative applications of geospatial technology to address critical challenges in watershed security, climate change impacts, and environmental monitoring across Northern British Columbia and beyond. Many of his research projects are strongly connected with First Nations in northern BC.
He completed his BSc and MSc in Physical Geography at the University of Ottawa before starting his PhD in NRES at UNBC. Over the past fifteen years, he has worked and studied in Norway, Svalbard, Nunavut, Northwest Territories, Yukon, northern BC, and Alaska.
Outside of his academic work, he is a proud father of two and serve as the President of the Prince George Backcountry Recreation Society. Alexandre can often be found exploring the mountain trails throughout the region or tending to his chickens.
