Andrew Giles received a BScH in Life Sciences from Queen's University and a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of British Columbia where he studied the neurobiology and genetics of learning. He further developed his expertise in neuroscience conducting post-doctoral research at Nagoya University in Japan and The Scripps Research Institute in Florida where he studied the function of disease-related genes and proteins in neural circuits that control behavior. Moving back to Canada, he continued to study the brain working as a Research Associate with Dr. Kendra Furber here at UNBC. He investigated the development and aging of myelin, the insulation of the brain. He also broadened his research interests working on a project investigating adipose tissue pathology with Dr. Sarah Gray. Now, he is excited to be joining the Division of Medical Sciences at UNBC to teach in the Northern Medical Program and continue to collaborate on research projects.
